Description

Though at present it's a theoretical project, the Bath House is one that I hope to someday build. It's been a long-standing dream of mine to build a small structure in which I could invest a high degree of craftsmanship while exploring ideas about construction, materiality, and architectural ornament. I also have come to enjoy soaking in the bath, and so the idea of the Bath House was born. The focus of the dwelling is a Japanese-style wood soaking tub. Along with a shower, the space is large enough to also serve as a guest house (a mattress can be stored in the cabinetry) or a tea house. And while the Bath House currently resides in the realm of the imagination, the perforated glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) ornamental wall panels with colored glass inserts are well on their way to being realized.  A model and mold has been made and the first tile should be cast soon. Stay tuned...
